LUSU and the Engine Room were awarded Silver in the reputable design effectiveness awards ceremony (#dba) which took place on Thursday 29th June.
This outstanding accolade is in recognition of the fabulous work The Engine Room has achieved in rebranding and renaming LUSU Sports Ltd.
We can’t even begin to thank Lesley, Darren, Leo and the whole team, who were with us from the start, who created our brand LUSU Sports, a play on our names (Lou and Sue) but with meaning behind the name (Learning United, Sports Unlimited).
Throughout the years, Lesley and Darren have not only assisted in creating our fabulous brand, but have become good friends along the journey. The uniqueness of this award, is that it is shared between design company and client – we have an award each which fits together to make one! And this makes it so special.
We are very proud of our achievements over the years, some of these are seen in the executive summary of the report.

To team up with your best friend on the LUSU journey is such a privilege and what a ride we’re on!
What a team to work with
We can’t thank the team enough for everything they have done for us. We are inspired every time we step into their creative space. Such a dynamic, friendly and very knowledgable team.
The Design Effectiveness Awards are led by the Design Business Association, the national trade association for design.
Yesterday, LUSU Sports Ltd delivered a “zoom in the room” to a group of physios across the North of England, exploring how playing tennis can help exercise the brain and assist in aiding movement skills. We were supported by Matt Elkington from the LTA Coach Development Team and Reach Your Peak.
It is great to be part of an innovative project, teaming up with the LTA, Physios and working with a specific target audience.
It was great to see the enthusiasm and excitement the physios attending had about introducing tennis into their physical activity sessions and watching their confidence increase with tennis activities. We all had a lot of fun.

Here is what TB Sport staff had to say about their experiences in the Practical Training Workshop delivered by LUSU Sports Ltd around Inclusive PE Practice:
“I found the LUSU training very easy to understand. I also found that the use of different pieces of equipment that are not necessarily conventional are easy to get to grips with. This training enhanced my understanding of a child’s needs.”
Will, Sports & Activities Professional
“I thought it was really eye opening and some of the discussions were thought provoking. During the training I saw a lot of good ideas especially around the adaptations within the activities and how to support people with various additional needs.”
Jake, Physical Education Professional
“ This training session has shown me how you can build upon an activity. You can start simple and add to it to make it more difficult. For throwing & catching activities you can use all different pieces of equipment the activity doesn’t have to just be played with a ball. It can be adapted for any ability.”
Rebecca, Wraparound Activities Professional
