LUSU were absolutely delighted to receive the Disability Award in recognition of the work that LUSU has done over the years for children and young adults with a disability. LUSU have had such a great year, starting with the Disability multi activities / tennis event at the Greater Manchester Special Olympics. Lots of the children and students thoroughly enjoyed joining in with the tennis related fun games to music.
LUSU have also delivered the SEND school tennis festival and have trained up the year 8 & 9 School pupils to help support the children with their skills. During the school holidays, LUSU work on the CADS (Children, Able, Disabled, Sports) holiday camps delivering tennis to children with learning difficulties and PMLD (Profound, Multiple Learning Disabilities) The children love playing games with all the fun and exciting LUSU equipment.
LUSU has worked with the great team at Whizz-Kidz delivering tennis to a range of children and young adults in wheelchairs. The equipment worked well with they’re varying abilities.
A 12-week tennis coaching session was delivered at Seashell Trust to students with PMLD. It has been fantastic seeing the students’ progress over the weeks. Many of the students started doing just 5 minutes and then progressed to 35 minutes. We would not be able to deliver the sessions without any of the LUSUKIT. The equipment allows students with very little movement to track and even hit the ball over the net.
